Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)

Who applies: Canadian post-secondary institutions

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program are intended to offer scholarships to students, from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels. 

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be citizens of an ASEAN member state (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos (Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)), Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, or Vietnam);
  • They must be enrolled as a full-time student at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country and pay tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.
Candidates are not eligible:
  • if they hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency;
  • if they are already participating in a scholarship program which is funded by the Government of Canada;
  • if they are already enrolled in a degree or diploma program at a Canadian post-secondary institution,
  • if they have previously received a scholarship under the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development.

NOTE: Only Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of the applicants. They may choose to set their own internal deadline to receive the required documentation. 

Canada-CARICOM Skills Training for the Green Economy Scholarships

Who applies: Canadian publicly-funded colleges and institutes

The Canada-CARICOM Skills Training for the Green Economy Scholarships is offered to students from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states with short-term exchange opportunities at publicly funded Canadian colleges and institutes. The scholarships support the study of programs or disciplines related to the green economy, which include but are not limited to climate-smart agriculture, coastal and fisheries management, renewable energy, sustainable building techniques, and agroforestry.

NOTE: Only Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of the applicants. They may choose to set their own internal deadline to receive supporting documents. 

Eligibility
  • Candidates must be citizens of one of the CARICOM member states: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago; and
  • They must be enrolled as a full-time student at post-secondary institutions in an eligible country/territory and pay tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of the exchange.
Candidates are not eligible:
  • if they hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency;
  • if they are already participating in a scholarship program funded by the Government of Canada; and
  • if they are already enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program

Who Can Apply?
Canadian post-secondary institutions

The Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program is designed to provide faculty or international liaison officers/managers from post-secondary institutions located in the CARICOM member and associate member states with short-term exchange opportunities for professional development, graduate study, or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions.

NOTE: Only Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of the applicants. Another point to note here they may choose to set their own internal deadline to get supporting documents. 

Eligibility
Applicants must be:
  • citizens of one of the CARICOM member and associate member states:

  Anguilla, Antigua, and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos; and

  • They must be employed full-time as faculty or international liaison officers/managers at a post-secondary institution in the eligible countries/territories at the time of application and for the entire duration of their stay in Canada.

Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP)

These Scholarships are usually for a period of 4 to 12 months of research in Canada but do not require formal enrolment at a Canadian university. The eligible candidates are placed as visiting scholars. Those who receive this scholarship will have to travel to Canada before the end of February 2023 to begin their program.

Eligibility

Canada offers awards to full-time, permanent teaching or research staff, master’s or doctoral graduates as well as non-academics in China holding senior professional posts (e.g., judges, broadcasters, economists). This is done in order to make a distinctive contribution to life in China and to mutual understanding between Canada and China, as they return to their home country.

Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program

This scholarship was announced by the Government of Canada in 2009 to support the development of human capital and the next generation of leaders in the Americas while strengthening the relationship between post-secondary institutions in Canada and the Americas. These scholarships are offered to students from post-secondary institutions located in Latin America and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions. 

The scholarship is a part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Scholarships Program

Eligibility
  • The applicant must a citizen of an eligible country/territory;

  Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua, and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad, and Tobago, Turks and Caicos

  Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama

  North America: Mexico South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

  • Applicants must also be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in an eligible country/territory
  • They must pay tuition fees to that institution at the time of application and for the full duration of their exchange

Organization of American States (OAS) Academic Scholarship Program

The Organization of American States (OAS) coordinates a multilateral scholarship program that is offered to eligible candidates on behalf of all participating OAS member states.

These Awards are given to students from other OAS member states for graduate study or research in Canada.

The OAS awards give the opportunity to graduate students from an OAS member state to apply for scholarships to study in another OAS member state. Canada encourages eligible students to apply for these scholarships for experiencing Canada’s academic expertise.

Those students who are desiring to participate should send their application directly to the National Liaison Agency (ONE) designated in their country for the OAS program.

Canada Student Visa

The international students are required to carry the Letter of Introduction and all the specified documents when applying for a Canada student visa. On the arrival at the airport, the students will meet an Immigration Officer. Thereupon, they will have to present the passport and the Letter of Introduction to the border control agency officer. The officer would then validate the same and issue you the study permit, if he finds all the necessary documents.
