Are you planning to apply for an Australian student visa from Nepal? It’s important to know the process and understand the significance of the documents you will prepare to submit. This post helps you comprehend the various requirements, making it simple for you to keep ready all the information to submit and the criteria to fulfil.
Applying for an Australian student visa
We’ll give you a list of requirements, so get your pen and paper. Even better, print this list to keep it handy as you gather all necessary documents and information.
Open your Immigration Account
- Once you get admission to a university in Australia, it’s time to apply for a student visa. Open your IMMIGRATION ACCOUNT on the Government of Australia website.
- Once you’ve set up your Immigration Account, you have to attach a set of documents that will be requested from you.
Submit the CoE
Start with the CoE letter, that is, the CONFIRMATION OF ENROLLMENT, and add it to your account. Make sure that the CoE has the date of when the course begins. If your study program start date has passed, you must mention the same through the updated CoE with the new start date. The sooner you get this done, the sooner you will get a visa decision.
Submission of important documents
You will be requested to provide the following details while submitting your visa application:
- Submit Proof of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
- Proof of Funds (financial documents)
- Clearance certificate from home country – Police background check
- Scorecard of English Language Test (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE)
- GTE Requirement
Submit documents in English or translated documents
All your documents submitted must be in ENGLISH. If not, then attach a translation as well as a copy of the original document. You will also have to attach the translator’s details, including their full name, address, contact number, qualification and experience in the language they are translating. If you are using the services of a translator in Australia, make sure that they are accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.
Submitting your personal details
- You will have to attach details of your DATE OF BIRTH. Make sure to add the correct details in the dd/mm/yyyy format.
- You will receive a message notification on your immigration account to complete your health assessment. The health assessment report must meet the criteria as per Australia’s health requirements. The faster you complete your health assessment, the sooner you can receive a decision on your visa application.
- You may be asked to submit your biometric details, such as your photo, fingerprints, etc. Begin arranging the biometric data as soon as you get a message on your immigration account to do so. You may have to travel to a designated biometric collection centre to arrange for the necessary data.
Documents to submit if you are a Nepalese student under 18
If you are applying as a student under 18 years of age, then include the following documents:
- Documentation that shows your parent’s or guardian’s consent to you coming to Australia to study.
- Details about the arrangements made for your stay in Australia, from living arrangements and guardianship.
- Information and documents to identify your parents or legal guardians, like your birth certificate or proof of guardianship.
You can check more information through the requirements mentioned for the Subclass 500 Student Visa on the Australian Government website. Alternatively, you can speak to an expert in person and reach out to our visa consultants of Expert Education at your nearest branch in Nepal to guide you in this process.
Applying to accompany a student under 18
You may be a guardian or parent applying for a visa to accompany your child or a student under 18. In this case, you need to apply for the Subclass 590 Student Guardian visa. You must also prove that you are capable of supporting your and your child’s stay in Australia. Submit supporting documents like your current bank statement.
The time taken to process your visa will depend on the data you provide and if you provide new data at a later point in time. It can depend on whether you’ve carried out all submissions online or as a paper application. It can also depend on how quickly you respond to the additional data requested from you, how long it takes to evaluate the data you sent, getting information from external agencies, and so on.
For the Subclass 500 visa, 90% of visas take time to process within eight months. This may also take longer based on factors like not providing all the requested information or your application being complex.
