The tourist stream visa – subclass 600 is for those who wish to visit Australia as a tourist, go on a cruise, or see family and friends. It is a temporary visa, and the length of the stay is specified in the visa grant letter. The following things are considered in determining the stay period:

- the reason for your stay in Australia
The visa is granted with either a ‘single’ or ‘multiple entry’ condition. With ‘multiple entry’, you can leave and return to Australia on the visa while it is valid.
You can study or train for up to 3 months on this visa and are not allowed to work. You can apply for this visa in or outside Australia. You cannot stay in Australia longer by extending this visa and must apply for another visa to extend your stay.

You must be in Australia when applying for this visa and when the decision is made.
