The Master of Professional Engineering (MPE) degree at the University of Newcastle is an advance engineering degree which students can complete in one, two or three years based on their background and career goals.
The 3-year MPE degree is for individuals seeking to make a career change to engineering. Applicants with related backgrounds such as science or mathematics can build on their knowledge through foundational engineering courses. This degree is only available in the disciplines of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Software engineering.
The 2-year MPE degree is designed for applicants who have an engineering degree from overseas countries and are seeking to gain professional recognition in Australia and around the world.

What you will study
The students in the 2-year and 3-year program need to complete 12 weeks of Industrial Experience (students can be exempt from this provided they can submit suitable evidence). Students seeking to enrol in the 1-year program are not required to complete the industrial experience component. The following specialisations are available:

Requirements, intake dates and location
Academic Requirement:
- 3-year MPE program: STEM-based Bachelor degree, other than engineering, with at least 20 units (UON equivalent) of mathematics covering algebra and linear calculus.
- 2-year program: A named Engineering degree in an aligned discipline area to applicant’s preferred MPE. The degree must be equivalent to the Sydney Accord standards.
- 1- year program: A University of Newcastle Engineering degree, or equivalent, in the same discipline area.
English Requirement: IELTS score of overall 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 or equivalent
Intake: Semester 1 and Semester 2

Scholarships:
